 Forest School Plus

A Broad and Balanced Curriculum The Outdoor Classroom, 27th September 2019, Herd Farm, 9:00 - 16:00

SOuL in association with Herd Farm and Active Schools+, welcome you to this inspirational one day event dedicated to equipping teachers in taking all aspects of teaching and learning outside the classroom.

The day will be packed with practical, hands on workshops designed by leading specialists to give you the confidence, ideas and activities to bring learning to life across all areas of the curriculum. The emphasis will be on expanding the size of your classroom by using your outdoor spaces and making the curriculum practical, experiential and full of 'real experiences' to engage all the senses of your learners.

The evidence shows that not only do children engage with learning in a more meaningful way but five major studies have demonstrated the positive impact on attainment, social skills, concentration levels, health and wellbeing plus many more benefits.

Using this approach we hope to provide a context where every child's strengths and talents can be recognised.

Tina, Forest School Plus will be leading one of the 4 workshops:

Living & Learning

Forest School Plus will be leading a session in the Iron Age Roundhouse enclosure at Herd Farm on how a “living history” experience can enhance a knowledge-rich curriculum, develop vocabulary in context and engage all pupils as well as being fun.

Forest School Plus is lead by experienced FS – KS2 teacher Tina Roberts who has been an educational visits co-ordinator, geography co-ordinator and sustainable schools co-ordinator, and is now a Forest School Leader, outdoor educator and artist. In collaboration with Ian, an archaeologist (www.ianrobertsarchaeology.co.uk),  Forest School Plus have created outdoor learning experiences that are factual, relevant to the curriculum and based on current research. They have developed an expertise in blending Forest School type activities with Archaeological insights that enhance learning of the NC 2014 History topic, Changes in Britain from the Stone Age to the Iron Age (https://www.forestschoolplus.co.uk/prehistoric-experiences-herdfarm/forest-school-and-archaeology-the-philosophy/).

Bring your growth mindset, be prepared to be challenged and take a fresh look at the possibilities outside your classroom.
