Forest School Plus Milestones

 

2018

  • September - With no Festival of Archaeology in 2018 a new venture was planned in collaboration with Herd Farm - a Heritage Open Day on 7.9.18
  • August - First stall at York River Art Market for Tina Roberts FSP Art & Craft
  • August - First Prehistoric Playday for Foster4Leeds was a great success with both adults and children
  • August - First tour of the roundhouses with an archaeology group
  • July & August -More Nature Play sessions were held in the holidays for Friends of Middleton Park and The Chillout Club at The Grammar School at Leeds.
  • April- Having the coldest day and the hottest day we were presented with new challenges. Where do you find shade when there are no leaves on the trees. Our trusty golf umbrellas purchased for rainy days provided welcome shade.
  • March - The Beast from The East presented some challenges and involved some last minute re-scheduling of bookings
  • January -Work commenced in early January with in-school workshops and outside again on the 31st.

2017

  • October - 100th Prehistoric Experience @HerdFarm
  • September - First Forest Schol Play session at the Great Middleton Show - also won best in show for art!
  • July - Second Festival of Archaeology open day at Herd Farm
  • July - Attended Natural Dyeing course Leeds College of Art
  • June - green woodwork course with The Woodsmith
  • April - Volunteered to help Stonehenge trained neolithic thatchers Lisa and Wendy to replace roof of largest roundhouse at Herd Farm. 
  • April - Opened Folksy shop online for nature inspired art and craft - https://folksy.com/shops/TinaRobertsFSPArtCraft
  • March - Made a bronze axe with James Dilley
  • February - Forest School First Aid certificate renewed
  • January - First Survial Day experience to inspire Year 6 writers
  • January - Education team from Flag Fen visit FSP at Herd Farm to find out about intergrating Forest School and Archaeology into prehistoric experience days for KS2.
  • January - First "The Romans are Coming!" in school

2016

  • September - Visit to Isle of Harris and Lewis and Perthshire to see prehistoric Callanish Stones and the Scottish Crannoch Centre
  • July - First Festival of Archaeology Prehistric - Romans Open Day for teachers and families @HerdFarm
  • July - First Explorers @HerdFarm experience for KS1
  • May - First Stone Age Experience @HerdFarm
  • April -First "The Romans are Coming!" experience @HerdFarm
  • April - Visit Archeon in Netherlands for further CPD in living history
  • February - First Forest School playscheme sessions
  • January - First bronze Age burial workshops - nice to be indoors in midwinter!

2015

  • November - Northern Histroy Forum exhibition
  • September - First iron Age Experience @HerdFarm
  • August - Preparation days at Herd Farm, making and collection of artefacts for first Iron Age Experience
  • July - Visits to Butser, ATC and Stonehenge to further develop knowledge of prehistory
  • June - Publication of "TREE-mendous History" in Primary History Magazine http://www.history.org.uk/resources/primary_resource_8378_3.html
  • June - Another set of facsimile cave paintings delivered to Artemis
  • June - Exhibition at Global Learning Event, Trinity University, Leeds
  • May - First bookings of half term play sesions for FOMP - "Nature Art" and "Strings and Things"
  • May - Free Forest School Taster sessions held at Ninelands Primary school for Leeds Teachers and TAs.
  • May - History of Charcoal Burning workshop as part of the Middleton Park Heritage Day for local Y6 pupils
  • April - First visit to see the roundhouses. Plan to start Iron Age Experience collaboration with Herd Farm.
  • April - "From Little Acorns..." Workshop delivered to Northern History Forum showing how Forest School, trees, parks and woodland in the loal area can contribute to historical learning. 
  • March - delivered Forest School Taster for Garforth Primary Partnership (and broke right fore finger!)
  • March - completed commission for facsimile cave paintings and delivered them to Artemis, Leeds
  • February - attended Lindley Trust Festival of Outdoor Learning at Hollowford, Castleton, Derbyshire
  • January - @ForestSchoolTR live on Twitter

2014

  • November - Exhibition at Northern History Forum
  • October - delivered first Changes from Stone Age to Iron Age workshop
  • September - Ledsham Fair - Exhibition, interactive activities and prehistoric food tasting
  • August - Visit to Castell Henlyss to develop knowledge of prehistory
  • Set up Forest School Plus to offer Forest School, Nature Play, Prehistoric workshops and develop associated art and crafts
